Justin Ramos, age 27, of Stamford, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Friday, July 7 at Cummings Beach with a loaded gun in his backpack, said Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin.
Conklin said members of the Narcotics and Organized Crime unit received the tips shortly before the event was scheduled to begin.
"There was a real concern due to the number of people attending the event," Conklin said.
Agents quickly worked with officers to locate Ramos who was found standing on the beach with a backpack on the ground that contained a Hi-Point 380ACP handgun with one bullet in the chamber and 6 rounds in the gun, Conklin said.
"Officers kept him under surveillance and then quietly moved on him without many people knowing what was happening," Conklin said.
Conklin said the gun was stolen from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Inside the black backpack, officers also located 6.5 grams of crack cocaine and a pair of pants, police said.
Ramos currently has five open cases. He was charged with:
- Possession of a pistol without a permit
- Theft of a firearm
- Possession of narcotics
- Possession of narcotics with intent to sell
He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, July 21.
"Great work by all involved," the chief said. "It shows the Crime Stoppers gun program is working."
